Crafted to Penfolds House Style, Bin 8 was first released in 2003, responding to a growing interest in Australia’s quintessential blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Dominated by Shiraz, its softly integrated oak creates an impressively smooth red wine.
Bin 8 was first made in 2003 and is a modern exemplar of Penfolds multi-regional and multi-varietal blending philosophy. Ripe, balanced fruit flavours are supported by softly integrated oak resulting in an impressive, smooth red wine. It was introduced in response to a heightened interest in shiraz and cabernet sauvignon blends, a classic Australian wine style that Penfolds has championed in various guises since the 1960s. Our Bin numbers were originally derived from the maturation cellar location after bottling. However, Bin 8 was anointed its designation because it uses older oak previously employed to craft Bin 128, Bin 28 and Bin 389 with the number 8 providing the common thread.
Colour: Plum purple core, purple rim.
Nose: Icing sugar, cocoa powder, chinotto, freshly sliced fillet of beef, brooding dark fruits, olive tapenade, red miso, baking spices.
Palate: Shiraz richness meets cabernet structure, medium bodied, balanced and rounded/complete. Red fruits coming to the fore, cherry, plumb. Contemporary, approachable. Mouthcoating, savoury, velvety tannins.
