A Greek Classic, Reimagined in Clare Valley
Jim Barry Assyrtiko 2023 is a distinctive dry white wine produced from 100% estate-grown Assyrtiko in Clare Valley, South Australia.
The story began when second-generation winemaker Peter Barry first tasted Assyrtiko on the Greek island of Santorini in 2006. Captivated by the grape’s crisp acidity and dry, mineral character, he brought Assyrtiko cuttings into Australia and established the country’s first planting at Jim Barry’s Lodge Hill Vineyard in 2012.
The result is a vibrant Australian expression of this iconic Greek grape—combining Clare Valley fruit intensity with Assyrtiko’s naturally refreshing acidity and subtle salinity.
Tasting Notes
The 2023 vintage is fresh and energetic, opening with aromas of dried lemon, lime juice, bay leaf and fresh pink grapefruit.
On the palate, generous fruit weight is balanced by a clean, lively line of acidity. A delicate saline character carries through to an exceptionally long and refreshing finish.
Why You’ll Love It
This is an excellent choice for wine lovers looking beyond Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. It is dry, crisp and citrus-driven, yet offers enough texture and concentration to remain interesting from the first glass to the last.
